We’re proud to share that this week, our Founder and CEO, Ramon Gras Alomà, was featured in an article discussing one of today’s most pressing urban challenges: how to accommodate growth in the Barcelona metropolitan region without expanding unsustainably.

In the article, Ramon highlights a critical insight: the metropolitan region is expected to provide new residential dwellings to host 700,000 new residents over the next 20 years, requiring up to 475,000 new homes. Aretian’s work emphasizes that densification must be selective, data-driven, and context-specific. Not a one-size-fits-all solution.

“Should we increase density? Yes, but we need to assess each case individually and take into account the urban and demographic context. Dense cities allow for greater proximity to educational services, retail, and public transportation. Furthermore, it has been shown that this promotes business interaction. But when certain thresholds are exceeded—as in L’Hospitalet—the returns begin to diminish.”, explained Ramon.

At Aretian, we believe it is essential to combine city science, advanced analytics, and urban design to deliver evidence-based strategies that balance growth, sustainability, and quality of life.
